Reiki and Grief
Grief is one of the most difficult parts of the human experience. The sense of loss, the emptiness, the loneliness, these are words that barely capture the depths of the pain associated with grief.
We often think about grief in relation to death, but it can show up in other ways. Grief can be present through divorce, the end of a friendship, or your kid going off to college.
Grief is heavy and it hurts.
The Energy of Grief
Many of us try to intellectualize our emotions, but emotions are something that are meant to be experienced and processed through the physical body.
When you donβt process your emotions, they become stuck in your energetic field and create blockages.
Those blockages can create physical sensations of pain in your body. A heaviness, a tightness, a weight that seems to be sitting on you.
Grief and the Lungs
Certain emotions get stuck at certain points in your energy field. Grief migrates and gets stuck around your lungs.
If you are actively grieving, you may feel like an elephant is sitting on your chest and you may find it difficult to take deep breaths.
If youβre not breathing intentionally, your body will naturally fall into a pattern of shallow breaths because it takes a lot of effort to move the energetic weight that is sitting around your chest while you are grieving.
Emotions and the Heart Chakra
The Heart Chakra is located at your heart center and the energy of every emotion has to be processed through it.
As a Reiki Master-Teacher that works on clients who are grieving, I feel the energy of grief as a thick molasses. That energy is difficult for clients to move through the heart chakra because it is SO painful (figuratively and literally).
The physical pain of grief is so intense that people trap it down, which causes it to sit on the outside of the heart (unprocessed).
Pain and the Subconscious
When you are in physical pain, your brain activates pain receptors in your body to let you know that your body is experiencing pain.
When you experience emotional pain, your brain activates the same pain receptors.
Your body responds the same to emotional pain as it does to physical pain.
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese form of energy healing where a practitioner channels universal life-force energy (ki) into the body and energy field of a client.
How is Reiki Performed
The client is typically lying on a Reiki table (similar to a massage table), while a practitioner uses a combination of hands-on and hands-off positions to allow Reiki to flow in.
Reiki is a spiritually-guided life energy that knows intuitively how it can help you. It is channeled by the practitioner, but not directed by them. Once Reiki enters your energy field, it knows what it needs to do to support your healing.
How Reiki Can Help
Reiki Healing can help start to shift the energy of grief off your heart chakra. When the energy shifts, you tend to breathe a little easier and be able to process the emotional part of grief. Reiki cannot erase your pain, but it can give you a little more space to process through it without feeling quite as consumed.
Reiki can also be integrated with therapy. The combined approach helps you target grief mentally, emotionally, and energetically. If you have questions about Reiki or Integrated Therapy + Reiki or would like to book a session with me, please use the Contact Me button below.
